KATHRYN B. SCOTT
Kathryn Scott entered the University of Alabama in 1970 after graduating from Benjamin Russell High School.  She was an undergraduate from 1970-74 and received her Bachelor of Science in Music Education.  She attended Graduate School at the University from 1974-75 receiving a Master of Arts in Music Education.   Kathryn was in the Million Dollar Band for five years as an undergraduate and graduate student.  She played Tenor Saxophone for 4 years and French Horn for one year.  She played Bassoon in the Concert Band and was the recipient of a 5-year music scholarship on Bassoon. 
 
From 1975 -76, Kathryn was Band Director at Cherokee Vocational High School in Cherokee, Alabama teaching Grades 5 through 12.  She became Assistant Director of Bands at the University of Alabama in 1976 and served until 1984.  In 1984, Kathryn became Interim Director of Bands at the University.  In 1985, she became the Director of The Million Dollar Band and served until her retirement in 2002.   She was the first female collegiate NCAA Marching Band Director in the nation.
 
Kathryn was very instrumental in organization the Million Dollar Band Association and the beginning of scholarship funding for MDB students. She is well known and respected throughout Alabama and the U.S. for her contributions to instrumental music education. 
 
Ms. Scott was actively involved with promoting Organ Donation with the Alabama Organ Donor Society while serving as MDB Director.  She assisted numerous people, companies, support groups, agencies, societies, University functions/celebrations, etc. by providing the MDB or a Pep Band per their requests.
 
Kathryn served as a Board Member for the West Alabama Red Cross prior to retirement and moving out of state.  One of her greatest honors was being selected by the elite women's leadership society, THE XXXI, to become one of the top 31 outstanding female graduates of The University of Alabama in its entire first century of allowing female enrollment.
